Well, I'm now officially a 'golden girl'. Just had my fiftieth birthday a few days ago. I thought I was high maintenence before, now I guess I'll be higher to maintain than before. I don't like this aging process now. I have noticed the subtle changes in my facial features and I'm not too pleased with what I've seen so far. I'm looking into some different facial creams, cleansers, etc. to see if any of it really works or if its just a bunch of hype and illusional for the aging women out there who are beginning to fight the signs and facts of aging. I'll need to be consulting with my Mary Kay rep more frequently would be my guess.

Not only will I need to keep a close eye on the facial features but the eyes themselves are not what they used to be either. I think this is harder for me to accept because of my love for reading and its just not the same when you have to hunt a pair of glasses to read the simplest things. And since when did they start prinitng everything in micro-print? Good grief! It doesn't seem that long ago that I could read that itty bitty type!

Then there's this gray hair to deal with. So far, I've found a hair style that hides the worst of it. I've not yet decided whether or not to color it as it turns whiter. I'll just have to cross that bridge when I get closer to it. For now my plate is full enough. I'm ever so grateful for the makeup and I love being a female to get to use it and play with it. However, I do wish I'd have had access to all that can be bought nowadays. Although I didn't have need of it so much in my younger years.

I've been spending extra time lately playing with my recent Wet n Wild makeup. Its great quality makeup that can be found at Walgreens and Rite Aid Pharmacies for really cheap. I've also got my August shipment of Smashbox makeup from QVC. I'll be doing a You Tube video about it and probably with the Wet n Wild too. It's kinda hard for me to find the quiet time it takes to make videos these days.

I need to take some pics and post here when I get more time too. So I hope if you are reading this and want to find out more you will come back again in a few days and till then check out my YT channel at DRmakeupgirl.

src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

The month of August has been a good month for me and makeup. I'm getting more aquainted with the Wet and Wild brand of cosmetics. I bought several items from Wet and Wild at my Walgreens and Rite Aid pharmacies. To my great suprise, Walgreens had a few little kits in clear cases with black trim for $4.99 each. I guess you could say they had sample size products inside. The Walgreens I went to only had 2 to choose from they are called classic and dramatic. Each 'kit' consists of 1 black eye pencil, one 3 color/eyeshadow palette, 1 lip gloss, and 1 mascara. I like everything in the kits except for the mascara. (top-classic/bottom-dramatic)

I found the eyeshadow palettes that had 6 shadows each, 3 matte/3 shimmer. I bought all 4 and loved the one called Vanity well enough to go back and pick up another one! So far its the only one I've tested and tried, thats why I went back for another one. I've been told WnW are going to discontinue these palettes later this year or early next year. I also bought a few of the eyeshadow palettes that have the 3 shadows. (see photo below)
I also purchased a black gel eye liner in black. I love the liner gel but I'm not too thrilled with the brush that came with it. I prefer to use my coastal scents eyeliner brush because its thinner. However, thats not to say the brush that comes with the eyeliner is a bad one, its just thicker bristles than I prefer to achieve a thinner line. Just my personal preference. As you will see in the picture below I bought some single eyeshadows in Creme Brulle and Nutty. For my skin tone these two colors are a perfect everyday look for me. I still want to try the eyeliner gel in the plum color since I counldn't find a brown.

(Eyeshadow palettes from left to right ....top row= 33650/Enter A New Realm, 33647/Dancing in the Clouds, 33646/We're Blasting Off, 335/Silent Treatment. bottom row= 248/Lust, 249/Vanity, 246/Greed, 247/Pride.)

If you read my blog you'll see I've already tried some of the Wet n Wild nail polishes and lip sticks. I love all I've tried so far. I still want to try the WnW blushes. I've good things about them too.

I've still not caught on to this look! What is a 'nude' lip? Nude=naked, right? So why would any woman want to have naked lips? Stories and songs have been written about a woman's lips more than any other facial feature she has! "Lips like cherry wine", I think that was a line in a song a long time ago. Can you imagine Liz Taylor or Marilyn Monroe in a 'nude' lip? I think that would have just erased the bottom half of her face!

I'm not saying a red lip would be suitable for everyone either. Sometimes you have to pay attention to how a color of lipstick will cause your teeth to look more yellow or white. Of course we all want whiter teeth not yellow!

My personal preference for a lip color is to not go nude or even pink. I don't think a light pink fits my skintone nor will it cover my lips because I have more pigment in my natural lip color than a light pink lipstick can cover. I will combine a light pink with a darker shade of color to make a unique shade that suits me. I really enjoy being creative in that way.

What can I say, I just love lipsticks! I think the lips are just as important as the eyes when it come to makeup. But then again the whole face needs to be 'made-up' to get a full affect and show off all the beauty one has.
With a lip pencil, lipstick, lip gloss and a few tricks I believe any set of lips can be made to look better. It's not all about the color but for me I love color. It brings life to the face, not too much now, that can be a bad thing in some cases.

To sum up this post; I believe everyone has something to work with, some may have more, some less but there is something there to work with. Women are surely blessed these days to have what seems to be almost an endless supply of cosmetics to choose from. Drugstore makeup has come a very long way from my teenage years not only quantity but guality has been greatly improved. The bottom line is you don't have to spend a fortune to look your best. You don't have to have the most expensive makeup to look like a starlet either!
I got such a great deal on some of the new stuff I had to blog about it! They (ELF) made me an offer I couldn't refuse you see. They were offering me 50% off! Every female should be able to relate to that, right? I purchased (on line) the five Super Glossy lip shines, the five Summer ready nail polishes and the five Shimmer Lip Gloss collection.

(from left to right- Mango Madness, Candlelight, Pink Lemonade, pink kiss, and Trendsetter.)

These lip glosses are very pigmented and thick. By themselves they are great. Using them over a lip pencil or lip stick is really great too. I've used them all three ways and just love them! They won't 'bleed' on mature lips like many other lip glosses tend to do. I'm wondering to myself why I didnt' get more than one collection at 50% off!

(Here they are swatched from left to right - candlelight, pink kiss, trendsetter, pink lemonade and mango madness)

The ELF Shimmer lip glosses are not as pigmented and I've found they are more shimmery in the tube than on the lip. I much prefer the Super glossy lip shines.

(left to right - Victoria, Miami, Pink, Houston and New York City)
For the swatch I had to go pretty heavy with the application to get them to show up in the picture. They looked more sheer on my lips.

I've not swatched the ELF nail polishes yet, however, I'm wearing the Mango Madness and its the only one I've used so far. I've applied two coats and used a nail strengthener as a top coat. I'm finding after washing dishes, hands, and bathing that its got good staying power. It could be due to the top coat but then again I've used the same top coat with other polishes that have not endured for more than a couple days. The ELF polish has lasted me a good week so far and the picture was taken only an hour before uploading it here. Hopefully you'll be able to tell from the picture that it could last for maybe a few more days and still look good.

(left to right- Mango Madness,Blue Mist,Fushia,Lilac,Purple Pleaser)
(nail color - Mango Madness)
I'll be posting another blog entry featuring the other colors of the ELF nail polish collection.

*** I've purchased all the ELF products with my own money. I'm not receiving any compensation from E.LF. to blog about their products.
src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

So here we are again in the middle of the week, Wednesday. After a wild night of storms traveled across Kentucky the day turned out to be rather pleasant. I guess with every season there is something about the weather for people to complain about. This past winter was the snow and now with spring its the storms. However, in spite of all the things we don't like about the weather there's always something to like too. For instance, the sunshine, the warmer temps and all the beauty of nature. Trees and flowers blooming in all their splendor, in some cases will almost take your breath away to look at. Anyone who knows me will know that spring is my all time favorite season hands down!

I've finally brought out my Supreme necklace I purchased last fall from Pinky Loco. Here is a link to her facebook information if you'd be interested in purchasing one of your own. My hubby and I used to own an Oldsmobile Supreme with this signature emblem on it. I can't remember right now the year but it was white with some maroon interior and part of the roof was maroon too. My 26 yr old son called it my "BLING" lol. How cute! I hadn't thought of it like that but that is how I'll refer to it now. BLING SUPREME!

I've painted my fingernails with my new ELF nail polish in the color Mango Madness! Love the color! I'd describe the color as an orangy/coral. Its a matte color, no shimmer or frost. I'm lovin it! (see my more recent blog post for the pic) I've also got an ELF lip gloss to match, how cool is that! The nail polish and lip gloss came in packs of 5 for $5 and I go them for 50% off so what would have been $1 each without the discount turned out to be 50cents each? ELF has some super cool deals. The only catch to thier specials is you have to purchase a certain amout of other products from them. All thier stuff is pretty cheap but its actually very good quality cosmetics. I'm addicted to thier stuff!

We've finally had our first hummingbird visitors over the weekend! Hubby and I were like kids at the zoo or something! We love to watch them out our kitchen windows. I'd love to see more of them than what we see. We make our own serem for them from sugar/water/little red food coloring and mix it up, put in the containers and those little hummers drink it up!

(this picture was taken last fall before the hummers left for the winter)
I've got some more pictures of them on my Squidoo pages for viewing at www.squidoo.com/hummingbirds-1
while you're there check out my other pages.

I love makeup and the next best thing to buying/using makeup is to watch someone else do it! I'm so addicted to the YouTube guru's videos. There are so many videos to pick and choose from I want to pick them all but I just can't do that. The videos have so much information and personal experience to learn from and share with others who subscribe to your channels. The are composed of women of all ages and ethics. I guess its just a special gene women have to love makeup stuff!

After watching several YouTube channels I've made one of my own. I have uploaded a few videos although I'm intimidated by all the others who do so much better in thiers; speaking and all that than me. I've watched some of thier first videos and can appreciate thier growth and be encouraged that I'll get better with some more practice. Nevertheless, its all fun in the learning process! Its not about perfection after all. I love the girls who dont' try to hide their flaws and who just let thier pets and kids into the videos like a reality show would do.

You can visit my You Tube channel out at DRmakeupgirl.

Today I went to Walgreens and found the Wet n Wild nailpolishes on sale for a mere .69cents! They're regular 99cents each. I only picked 3 today and I love them all! The color I decided on tonight for my nails is in the color Frosted Fushia (much prettier pink than the picture shows). I've added a top coat of Madeleine Mono nail strengthener. It is so gorgeous I can't keep my eyes off my nails! I'll have to post back in a few days to give account of the staying power of this polish but I do believe it will be a good one. The other 2 colors I chose today are Dreamy Poppy(cream) which is a coraly pink and Mauve Frost which is a brownish pink color.

WET n WILD - Frosted Fushia

I'm not sure I like this brand. Compared to some other brands I've used this brand is thinner and takes longer to dry. The color I've chosen to wear today is called VII. Odd dark color. The first coat looked like a dark grape but with the second coat it looked more like a dark brown on my nails. The picture below is pretty accurate to what it really looks like on my nails. It was on sale for $1.99 is why I bought it. No big deal I'll be changing it in a few days. I do have to say the China Glaze polishes last pretty good without a top coat. I've applied a top coat today so I'll see if it makes it last any better. I also applied a nail strengthener directly on my nails first to prevent any staining. I'll see how that works out too.

ELF (www.eyeslipsface.com) makes buying makeup so much fun because they offer good quality products for an economically proficient price for everyone to be able to afford something no matter how strict your budget is these days. ELF cosmetics are becoming easier to obtain if you check at your local Dollar General, Walgreen's and Target stores as well as on line.

I've purchased several of thier makeup brushes at the Dollar General store from their $1 line. I've also bought some of their eyeshadow palettes at Walgreens. I've ordered mostly on line. I've sign up for their email offers and they offer a coupon code you can use to get the special deals.

Many items ELF offers are $1, $3, $5. Depending on the items you purchase and what other brands you compare them to, you will find they are worth the price. I have to admit I've not liked everything I've purchased but I'd give them a 9 out of 10 rating for sure!

Don't be surprised once you try ELF cosmetics if you get hooked and feel the need to inform all your friends and family about them too!

src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">

This week I received my order from Coastal Scents. I took advantage of the special offer in the email and I chose to use the discounted price to purchase the much coveted lip liner set. I've wanted this set of lip liners ever since they became available. I just didn't want to spend the money for the whole set so I decided to wait for a special offer and here it was!

I have to say I'm glad I waited and didn't try to purchase them one at a time. I love color in the set, although I'll probably not use many of the darker colors. However, given the right blend of lip pencil, lipstick/lipgloss I just might come up with some very pretty shades in the end. I'll just have to play around with them and see what I come up with.

I will be posting a picture of them. I find that they are pretty accurately colored as it shows on the end of each pencil. I love the application. They are soft and not hard like many pencils I've tried before. They apply very smooth on my lips and I'm all for that because I generally will not purchase a lip pencil that I think will pull and tug on my lips. I think they will be very lasting. I'm not one who goes for the 24 hr, long lasting makeup products, especially at my age I want something that will be easy to remove so I dont' have to tug and pull at my skin. Less wrinkles that way!

(From left to right) cabaret, coffee, mahogany, brown, prune, natural, pinky, mauve, express, toast, auburn, current
www.coastalscents.com
One of my YT friends was looking for me last night to see where I'd gone. I've just not had the time to make anymore videos for several reasons. Mainly lack of quiet time to get them done. I have several makeup purchases I want to review and post a video about as soon as I can. First off I'd like to have a new video camera to make some instead of using my laptop or digicam. I'd also love to edit my videos like emilynoel83! I love her new video editing and her little cupcake kitty!

I've got a new ELF eye shadow palette to try. I also bought a new roll of brushes from Coastal Scents. I've also got 2 new Cosmetique kits to blog about.

Who determines what is age appropriate for me other than ME? NOBODY! For instance, I recently polished my fingernails with the color Purple Pizzazz. I love the color! At first I thought, "this color is too young for me". But then I had another thought of "who decides what is too young and too old for ME"! My answer to myself was "ME!"

A couple nights ago I was watching one of the makeup videos I'm subscribed to (You Tube) and a younger woman than me asked if a neon pink would be too young for her to wear that color and she said she loved the color. Well, I say, " you like it then you go for it girl!" YOU decide what color you want to wear and forget about age.
Hey Ya'll.....I'm beginning to rediscover AVON makeup all over again. I used to use some of it several years ago and then I quit buying it cause my AVON lady moved or something. Now I'm attending church with a young lady selling AVON and I'm beginning to buy my makeup from her. I always loved the Glimmersticks eyeliner pencils in Cosmic Brown and I love the color, look, application, etc. I guess I don't have anything negative to say about the Glimmersticks, haha. I bought the 8 in 1 eyeshadow palette in the neutral tones. I'm loving the pigmentation and look of them. What I'm really likeing is the slight shimmer lool. I don't like eyeshadows to have a lot of shimmer and shine, especially as I get older. This palette is great for an everyday neutral look without a lot of product. No matter what your eye color I believe they will look good on everyone.

I'm wearing these products in my latest You Tube video if you want to see what they look like with blue eyes. My You Tube channel is DRmakeupgirl.
Well today is officially my birthday. Forty nine is the number of years I've graced this earth with my existence. A lot of water has gone under the bridge, some of it was very muddy, filled with debris. Sometimes it was a life giving, cool and refreshing for the soul. Nowadays I'm thankful and wiser how I respond to the water flowing under the bridge. Life will teach you to consider other things besides the water. What lies beneath the waters surface is one factor, number two consider the height and width of the bridge as well as the depth of the water.

Autumn is in the air today and I don't like it one bit! I really dislike this season! Everything dies. I know this is for a good reason in the natural scheme of things but its depressing to me nonetheless. From the time the fall season begins I'm longing for my beloved springtime; clear blue skies, warmer temperatures, no snows, lots of sunshine and rain, flowers blooming, birds chirping, green grasses. I can just see it now!

Hurry up springtime!

Today I turn 49 for the first time (next birthday will be the second time I'll be 49, lol) I have thus celebrated it with a trip to buy some new makeup of course! I love makeup and it's really a challenge to stand in those isle in the store and not get one of everything! But since I dont' have booKoos of money to spend on my passion I try to pick and choose wisely. For instance, today (I celebrated a day early on the 27 instead of 28-my birthday) I bought a couple of my favorite eyepencils (Covergirl Perfect Plus -expresso), 2 Revlon Matte eyeshadows (Vintage Lace), 2 Studio M nailpolishes (Get the Blues & Plum Perfection), 1 Rimmell lip pencil (natural) and 1 EOS lip balm (Summer fruit). I also bought a few blouses for good measure.

I've heard really good things about the EOS lip balms but I've applied this twice since I bought it today and so far I'm not impressed with anything about it. Compared to my Burt's Bees it pales badly!
I've been playing around with my false eyelashes I've purchased from www.eyesfacelips.com (ELF cosmetics). They are only $1 a pair. I've ordered my on line but I can also purchase them at my local Dollar General Store. I've not used false eyelashes since I was in high school and that was a long time ago. So now that I've found out ELF has sells them so cheap I can afford to practice a lot to learn how they work again.

I don't like the glue that comes with the lashes so I've bought some of the Revlon brand that I've heard is really good. I've not tried it yet but hope to in the next few days. I did get brave one day and make a video for my You Tube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/DRmakeupgirl )and post a new picture for my facebook page (www.facebook.com/deboracrobinson ) I didn't get them glued on very well but I dont' think it shows up in the video and picture.

I've made several purchases from ELF and will be posting/blogging about what I've bought in days to come. I love makeup!

I've just started my own YouTube channel about makeup http://www.youtube.com/user/DRmakeupgirl . I'm very excited about it. I've worn makeup most of my life and love the stuff! You can't have too much makeup. Its almost like a collectors type thing. Especially when you can find good products for a good price without breaking the bank to do it. For instance, ELF cosmetics is my new find! E.L.F. stands for eyes, lips, face thier website is www.eyeslipsface.com . I can also find some of their products at my local Dollar General Store.

My plan is to do many more videos on all brands of makeup like so many others are doing. Everyone is different even though its all about the same makeup sometimes. Each person puts their own personality and spin on their videos so it makes for a variety; no two are just alike. Lots of fun and educational to watch and to make yourself!

I would love for more 'older' women to do the makeup videos. Twentysomething is great while you're there but as life progresses things in regard to make up will change like everything else in life. Hope you go visit my channel and subscribe. Leave me some comments or ask questions if you like.

I've read some of this massive book and I've already disagreed with her on a couple of things. But before I will express my full opinion I will read more about what she has to say. Although, I do realize cosmetics that might work great for one person may not give the same results.

Since I started this blog entry I've read some of the book and I can't say I agree with all her research. Although she did give my Mary Kay skin care fair marks she seemed to be more focused in on the degree of sunscreen in the products. Actually from all the other products she had tested she didn't give good marks. So to sum it all up, if I took her book with me and did my cosmetics shopping I'd probably not buy anything!

I will have to say the book had tons of information on pretty much any cosmetic you can think of but I'll probably keep on buying my cosmetics as usual. I'd like to hear from anyone else who has read this book to know what you think.
